How PDF watermarking works

FileKit draws your watermark text on top of every existing page using a semi-transparent overlay. The original PDF content underneath is preserved exactly — fonts, images, form fields, and any other annotations stay intact. Diagonal layout rotates the text 45°, perfect for 'CONFIDENTIAL' or 'DRAFT' marks. Tiled layout repeats the text across the page in a grid for stronger discouragement of copying. All processing runs in your browser.

How to Add a Watermark to a PDF

  1. 1

    Upload your PDF

Drag and drop the PDF you want to watermark. Processing happens entirely in your browser.

  2. 2

    Set watermark text and style

Enter your watermark text (e.g. DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL). Adjust font size, colour, opacity, and rotation angle to match your needs.

  3. 3

    Apply and download

FileKit stamps the watermark across every page and generates a new PDF. Download the watermarked file — your original stays unchanged.
